What is Witchcraft?

Witchcraft

The use of supernatural powers, being also used as a synonym for witchcraft.

What does the Bible say about witchcraft?

Witchcraft is something to be condemned by God. When someone resorts to witchcraft, he/she is breaking God's commandments.

When someone engages in these practices, they open the doors to the occult and make room for the enemy of God, satan. We must seek God's power and favor in our lives to be truly free and happy.

And I will cut off sorceries from your hand,
and you shall have no more soothsayers;
Micah 5:12

“When you come into the land which the Lord your God gives you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. There shall not be found among you any one who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, any one who practices divination, a soothsayer, or an augur, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a medium, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord; and because of these abominable practices the Lord your God is driving them out before you. You shall be blameless before the Lord your God. For these nations, which you are about to dispossess, give heed to soothsayers and to diviners; but as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you so to do. Deuteronomy 18:9-14.

Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and fornicators and murderers and idolaters, and every one who loves and practices falsehood Revelation 22:15.

Now the works of the flesh are plain: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, 20idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, party spirit, 21envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God Galatians 5:19-21.

The Bible deals with witchcraft by taking a stand against any and all spiritual manifestations (witchcraft, macumba, candomblé, umbanda, kardecism spiritism, necromancy, parapsychology, hypnosis). The Scriptures condemn spiritualistic practices in such a way that all those who continue to practice them will be out of the kingdom of heaven (Revelation 22:15) and will be punished in the Lake of Fire and brimstone at the end of the millennium (Revelation 21:8) . This is because, according to the Word of the Lord, such practices are inconsistent with God's revealed truth about the state of the dead (see Psalm 6:5; 13:3, 115:17; Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6, and 10; John 14:1-4; 1 Thessalonians 4:13) and being of diabolical and demonic origin (cf. Revelation 16:14; 2 Corinthians 11:11-14; 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10). Therefore, God “has abhorred” such experiences.

One of the causes of King Saul's death was that he consulted a necromancer instead of the Lord God: “So Saul died because of his transgression committed against the LORD, because of the word of the LORD, which he had not kept; and also because he had interrogated and consulted a necromancer and not the LORD, who therefore killed him (this is a Hebrew idiom, that is, a Hebrew way of saying that God "allowed" Saul to die. According to 1 Chronicles 10:4, Saul himself took his life) and transferred the kingdom to David the son of Jesse” (1 Chronicles 10:13-14). Thus, we can conclude that witchcraft or any other branch of spiritism does not come from God.

Leviticus 20:6, 27

The man or woman who consults the dead or is a sorcerer will surely be killed. They will be stoned, and your blood will be upon them.

Deuteronomy 18:9-14

When you come into the land which the Lord your God gives you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. It was in the eighteenth year of King Josiah that this Passover was celebrated to the Lord in Jerusalem. Moreover Josiah put away the mediums and the wizards and the teraphim and the idols and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might establish the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the Lord. Before him there was no king like him, who turned to the Lord with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; nor did any like him arise after him.

1 Chronicles 10:13-14

So Saul died for his unfaithfulness; he was unfaithful to the Lord in that he did not keep the command of the Lord, and also consulted a medium, seeking guidance, and did not seek guidance from the Lord. Therefore the Lord slew him, and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.

And he burned his sons as an offering in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and practiced soothsaying and augury and sorcery, and dealt with mediums and with wizards. He did much evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger.

Isaiah 8:19-20

And when they say to you, “Consult the mediums and the wizards who chirp and mutter,” should not a people consult their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living? 20To the teaching and to the testimony! Surely for this word which they speak there is no dawn.

Ezekiel 13:18-20

and say, Thus says the Lord God: Woe to the women who sew magic bands upon all wrists, and make veils for the heads of persons of every stature, in the hunt for souls! Will you hunt down souls belonging to my people, and keep other souls alive for your profit? You have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, putting to death persons who should not die and keeping alive persons who should not live, by your lies to my people, who listen to lies. Wherefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against your magic bands with which you hunt the souls, and I will tear them from your arms; and I will let the souls that you hunt go free like birds.

and I will cut off sorceries from your hand, and you shall have no more soothsayers.

Then I will draw near to you for judgment; I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow and the orphan, against those who thrust aside the sojourner, and do not fear me, says the Lord of hosts.

Galatians 5:19-21

Now the works of the flesh are plain: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, party spirit, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
